Capacity Intelligence
Capacity Intelligence is to railway system planning what Business Intelligence is to business management It transforms data, constraints and objectives into clear decisions with the railway path as the economic unit of capacity. The path expresses the interaction between infrastructure, timetable, market demand, operations and construction works.
Understanding its value, feasibility and system-wide impact is becoming a decisive capability for infrastructure managers (IMs).
The new European Capacity Regulation makes this shift explicit. Strategic capacity planning: capacity strategies, capacity models and capacity supply plans require IMs to look beyond the annual timetable and manage capacity as a continuous, transparent and coordinated process. Temporary Capacity Restrictions (TCRs), market needs, operational quality and timetable robustness must be considered earlier, across longer planning horizons and with a clear view of their network-wide effects.
This is exactly where SMA brings distinctive value. For more than 30 years, we have helped institutional railway stakeholders (Public Authorities,
